"Bring on the cryptozoologists. The Bigfoot has left the jungles of Johor to the allure of Brunei's Labi, or so it seems.
"A Sungai Liang resident has discovered several strange footprints along the Andulau forest area in Labi, which according to him do not resemble human or animal footprints.
"Liew Kim San, 34, a permanent resident, said the footprints could be of an unknown wildlife while most of his Than friends speculated that it could be that of a forest genie, which they believe could be the reason why people normally get lost in the Labi forest area."

"Malaysia was gripped by the sighting of the Bigfoot in November 2005 in the jungles of Johor when three fishery workers claimed to have seen a Bigfoot family that left footprints up to 45cm long.
"Speculations were so intense that the Johor Wildlife Department directed officials to install cameras in strategic areas to capture the Bigfoot on camera."

First, a drawing of an alleged Bigfoot's eyes were posted on a website devoted to uncovering the existence of this creature:
"Sexual gaze of Johor's Bigfoot"
"The sketch of the eyes featured on the johorhominid.org website is said to have been based on a clear photograph of a female hominid in Johor’s jungles.
"The website also claims that the sclera (the white of the eye) surrounding the iris, which is meant for enhancing gaze signal in communication, showed that the creature had some kind of basic language."
Then, the "clear photograph" in question was posted on the site, with the following result:
"Bigfoot website closed after revelations"
"These dramatic developments came about after www.johorhominid.org released a photo yesterday that it claimed was an actual shot of a female Bigfoot’s eyes."
[...]
"It also threw a challenge to visitors, offering RM1,200 to anyone who could find a match of the photograph or prove beyond doubt that it was a hoax."
[...]
"However, at around 6pm, a visitor to the website posted a full-head shot of a creature in the comment page, which showed the same bloodshot eyes featured in the first photo.
“'You have no credibility left! Habis! (Finished!),' the visitor wrote, adding that the full-head shot had been obtained from another website."
Then, to the surprise of no one:
"Photo alleged to be of Bigfoot's eyes proved to be a hoax"
"[Site founder Sean] Ang said [French hominologist Jean luc] Drevillon had identified that the eye photograph was from Australopithecus images in a book on a French television documentary, 'L `Odyssee de l'espece', released in 2001.
"He added: 'At first we thought the Bigfoot photographs were convincing. However, after we posted a sketch of the eye, we could smell something fishy. The online community was not convinced. This was worrying. So, we thought it was time to post the real photo to settle the issue once and for all.'"
